What inspired this list?
I recently watched a Ted talk from Baroness Beeban Kidron where in her opening she said the following:
Evidence suggests that humans of all ages and from all cultures create their identity in some kind of narrative form. From mother to daughter, preacher to congregant, teacher to pupil, storyteller to audience. Whether in cave paintings or the latest uses of the Internet, human beings have always told their histories and truths through parables and fables. We are inveterate storytellers.
This struck a huge chord for me, as growing up, cinema was a huge part of my knowledge base, be it historical, political, or cultural. It dawned on me that children today do not have this anymore; very few schools run film clubs, and the preferred medium is literature (completely acceptable and necessary).
